University in India Offers Post-Graduate Course in Medical Botany

The University of Hyderabad in India is offering a post-graduate diploma in medical botany through a new distance-learning program. The program is divided into two terms, each consisting of three courses. The first term’s courses are Introduction & History of Medicinal Botany; Taxonomy & Identification of Plants; and Plant Diversity & Conservation. The courses that comprise the second term are Plant Products in Medicine; Biology, Cultivation, & Post-Harvesting Technology of Prioritized Medicinal Plants; and Collection, Analysis, Trade & Biotechnology of Medicinal Plants. According to a spokesperson for the course, the topics and materials for these courses were contributed by experts within the medicinal botany field. Courses are ultimately designed to provide information on the collection, development, and marketing of medicinal botanical resources and products.

The program is designed for agricultural scientists, extension specialists and agents, new crop researchers, pharmaceutical representatives, government officers, private producers and marketers, and graduate students. Anyone with a bachelor’s degree may seek admission.

The post-graduate diploma in medical botany is one of several new programs available through distance learning from the University of Hyderabad. The university first began offering such programs in 1994.
