AHPA Foundation Board Named

Board members of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) have appointed a Board of Directors for APHA’s non-profit Foundation for Education and Research on Botanicals.1 Nine members comprise the new Foundation Board:

• David Bunting (Vitality Works)
• Ed Croom, PhD (Indena USA, Inc.)
• Bill Keller, PhD (Nature’s Sunshine Products)
• Jim Kinsinger (the Hain Celestial Group)
• Beth Lambert (Herbalist & Alchemist)
• Michael McGuffin (AHPA)
• James Simon, PhD (New Use Agriculture & Natural Plant Products Program, Rutgers)
• Susan Trimbo, PhD (GNC)
• Mary Beth Watkins (Botanical Laboratories)

The purpose of the AHPA Foundation is to promote education and research on medicinal, therapeutic, and health-promoting herbs. Currently, the primary project of the Foundation has been to complete fund-raising for an updated revision of APHA’s Botanical Safety Handbook, originally published in 1997.Additionally, the Foundation had planned to publish a book on Chinese medicinal plant and animal conservation entitled Mending the Web of Life: Chinese Medicine and Species Conservation, written by Elizabeth Call and edited by Mary Maruca.

“The AHPA Foundation is an idea whose time has come, as there is so much work to be done to further botanical research and education,” Foundation chair Beth Lambert said. “We will seek out a variety of funding sources, from tax-deductible donations to grant applications, to support this work.”
