ACEER Foundation to create the Dr. James A. Duke Ethnobotanical Fund

In honor of renown ethnobotanist James A. Duke, PhD, the nonprofit Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research Foundation (ACEER) is creating a fund in his name to support its educational programs. Dr. Duke is a founding board member of both ACEER and the American Botanical Council and has made many contributions to the study of economic botany and ethnobotany throughout his long professional career. His guided tours through the rainforests of the Peruvian Amazon and the Andean highlands (as well as Belize, Costa Rica, and parts of Africa) have provided invaluable information and inspiration to hundreds of attendees of the annual Pharmacy from the Rainforest ecotours cosponsored by ACEER and ABC. The ACEER’s new Dr. James A. Duke Ethnobotanical Fund will help fund the ethnobotanical educational programs, provide research fellowships, and scholarships for international students traveling to the Amazon or Andes for study. Persons interested in supporting this program can contribute to this fund or find more information by contacting ACEER or visiting its website at http://www.aceer.org/.
