The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Osher Center is
recruiting applicants for their Training in Research in Integrative
Medicine (TRIM) post-doctoral fellowship program for July 2008.1
The deadline for this position is February 1, 2008. This fellowship,
which is solely funded by the National Center for Complementary and
Alternative Medicine (NCCAM)—part of the National Institute of Health
(NIH), is open to individuals with doctoral degrees who are US citizens
or permanent US residents. A work visa is acceptable for this grant but
not a temporary or student visa.
TRIM fellows are hired for a three-year interdisciplinary program
that interlaces research, education, and patient care as it relates to
research.2 This program includes seminars and formal course
work, mentoring by clinical experts in the use of integrative and
complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for patients of all age
groups, and instruction on how to conduct and support original clinical
research.
“We currently have two post-docs and are recruiting one for July
2008 and another next year, to start in July 2009,” wrote Leslie
Murchy, office manager and TRIM program coordinator at the Osher Center
for Integrative Medicine (e-mail, January 4, 2008). “After that, we
would recruit as people complete/leave the program to maintain four
post-docs total.”
TRIM fellows are selected by a committee consisting of a primary
investigator, Susan Folkman, PhD, and 4-5 other faculty members. Murchy
estimates that the post-doctoral fellow starting in July 2008 should be
selected by mid-April at the latest.
