California Supplement Manufacturer Pledges $500,000 for New Library at American Botanical Council

Dick Marconi, president and chairman of Global Health Sciences Inc. of Orange, California has recently pledged $500,000 to the capital campaign of American Botanical Council (ABC). This pledge will provide funds to create a library and resource center in the Herbal Education and Research building being designed and added to the organization’s new headquarters on the historic Case Mill Homestead in Austin, Texas. The proposed library will house materials dedicated to the education and promotion of the safe and effective use of medicinal plants and will provide the public access to an enormous wealth of information.

Dick Marconi has been a significant supporter of herbal research and development throughout the past three decades. As a former pharmaceutical salesman, he has built Global Health Sciences, Inc. into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of dietary supplements, with sales in more than 40 countries internationally. With great generosity and foresight, Marconi has dedicated his life to making millions of people take their health more seriously.

Through the Marconi Foundation for Kids, Dick Marconi has continually raised close to $1 million annually for children’s charities. It is from this dedication that ABC has benefited from yearly donations since 1995. Global Health Sciences Inc. is the parent company of D&F Industries, Omni-Pak Industries, and affiliates.

The American Botanical Council is an international, independent non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate the public on the use of herbs and phytomedicinals. ABC publishes the quarterly peer-reviewed journal HerbalGram, offers an extensive mail-order selection of medicinal herb books, and original educational publications. Other ABC programs include continuing education courses for pharmacists, ethnobotanical tours of the world’s rainforests, and the Ginseng Evaluation Program. November 1, 1998 marks the organization’s 10-year anniversary.
