Name of Drug

Condurango cortex, condurango bark.  

Composition of Drug

Condurango bark consists of the dried bark of the branches and trunk of Marsdenia condurango Reichenbach fil.  [Fam .   Asclepiadaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.  

The bark contains bitter principles, such as condurangin.  

Uses

Loss of appetite.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed:

Daily dosage:

  • Water extract (according to Erg.  B.  6 ):
    0.2 - 0.5 g;
  • Extract (according to Erg.  B.  6 ):
    0.2 - 0.5 g;
  • Tincture (according to Erg.  B.  6 ):
    2 - 5 g;
  • Liquid extract (according to Helv.  VI ):
    2 - 4 g;
  • Bark:
    2 - 4 g.  
Mode of Administration

Comminuted bark for teas and other bitter-tasting preparations for oral use.  

Action

Stimulation of the secretion of saliva and gastric juices.
