Name of Drug
Lichen islandicus, Iceland moss.
Composition of Drug
Iceland moss consists of the dried thallus of Cetraria islandica (L.) Acharius s.l. [Fam. Parmeliaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.
The herb contains mucilage and bitter principles.
Uses

(a) Irritation of the oral and pharyngeal mucous membranes and accompanying dry cough.
(b) Loss of appetite.

Average daily dosage:
- 4 - 6 g of herb;
- equivalent preparations.
Mode of Administration
Use (a):

- Comminuted herb, preferably for cold macerates and other bitter-tasting preparations for internal use.
