Name of Drug

Syzygii cumini cortex, jambolan bark.  

Composition of Drug

Jambolan bark consists of the dried bark from the trunk of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels (synonym S.  jambolana (Lam.) de Candolle) [Fam.  Myrtaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.  

The bark contains tannins.  

Uses

Internal:

  • Nonspecific acute diarrhea, topical therapy for mild inflammation of the oral-pharyngeal mucosa.  

External:

  • Mild, superficial inflammation of the skin.

    Unless otherwise prescribed:

    Average daily dosage:

  • 3 - 6 g of drug;
  • equivalent preparations.  

    Mode of Administration

    Comminuted herb for decoctions and other galenical preparations for internal use and local application.  

    Duration of Administration

    If diarrhea persists for more than 3 - 4 days, consult a physician.
