Name of Drug

Orthosiphonis folium, Java tea.  

Composition of Drug

Java tea consists of the dried leaf and stem tips of Orthosiphon spicatus (Thunberg) Baker (syn.   O.  stamineus Bentham) [Fam.  Lamiaceae], harvested shortly before flowering, as well as its preparations in effective dosage.  

The herb contains lipophilic flavones (such as sinensetin, scutellarein-tetramethylether and eupatorin), essential oil, and large amounts of potassium salts.  

Uses

Irrigation therapy for bacterial and inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract and renal gravel.  

Contraindications

None known.  

Warning:No irrigation therapy in case of edema due to limited heart and kidney function.

Daily dosage:

  • 6 - 12 g herb;
  • equivalent preparations.  

Mode of Administration

Cut herb for infusions and other galenical preparations for oral use.
