Name of Drug
Manna, manna ash.
Composition of Drug
Manna consists of the dried sap generated from the slit bark of trunk and branches of Fraxinus
ornus L. [Fam. Oleaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.
The drug contains mannitol.
Uses

Constipation. Ailments where an easier elimination and a soft stool are desirable, such as anal fissures, hemorrhoids, and post-rectal/anal surgery.
Contraindications
|
|
Bowel obstruction.
Side Effects
|
|
Sensitive individuals can experience nausea and flatulence.
Interactions with Other Drugs
None known.
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Daily dosage:
- For adults, 20 - 30 g of drug;
- For children, 2 - 16 g of drug;
- equivalent preparations.
Mode of Administration
Comminuted herb and other galenical preparations for internal use.
Duration of Administration
Laxatives should not be taken for an extended period of time without consulting a physician.
