Althaeae radix, marshmallow root.
Composition of Drug
Marshmallow root consists of the dried root, unpeeled or peeled, of Althaea officinalis L. [Fam. Malvaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.
Uses

(a) Irritation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa and associated dry cough.
(b) Mild inflammation of the gastric mucosa.

Note:The absorption of other drugs taken simultaneously may be delayed.
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Daily dosage:
- 6 g of root;
- equivalent preparations.
Marshmallow syrup:
Mode of Administration
Cut or ground root for aqueous extracts as well as other galenical preparations for internal use. Marshmallow syrup to be used only for use (a).
Note:Marshmallow syrup: diabetics need to allow for sugar concentration (according to declaration of manufacturer) percent (equivalent to...bread units).*
