Name of Drug
Populi gemma, poplar buds (balm of Gilead buds).
Composition of Drug
Poplar buds consist of the dried, unopened leaf buds of Populus species [Fam. Salicaceae], as well as their preparations in effective dosage.
The herb contains essential oil, flavonoids, and phenol glycosides.
Uses

Superficial skin injuries, external hemorrhoids, frostbite and sunburn.
Contraindications
|
|
Sensitivity to poplar buds, propolis, Peruvian balsam or salicylate.
Side Effects

|
Occasional allergic skin reactions.
Interactions with Other Drugs
None known.
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed:
- Semi-solid preparations equivalent to 20 - 30 percent of drug.
Mode of Administration
Semi-solid preparations for application on the skin.
