FWD 2 Virtual Tour: Wildlife

Scarlet bush (Hamelia patens) is native to South America and the Amazon basin. Its adaptability to varied climates makes scarlet bush a popular landscape plant in hot and dry or humid climates. The plant is a small, semi-woody, fast-growing bush that grows up to a height of 10 feet in its native habitat but only to about 4 feet in drier climates. In folk medicine the leaves are used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and fungi, heal wounds and reduce fever.
